Prevent and British Values

What is the Prevent Duty?

Under Section 26 of the Counter-Terrorism and Security Act 2015 EASI has a duty to have “due regard to the need to prevent people from being drawn into terrorism”.

It is our responsibility to help safeguard people and communities from the threat of terrorism and extremism by promoting British values.

British values are defined as:

Democracy – this is your right to vote.
The rule of law – the law is applied equally to all, no one is above the law.
Individual liberty – your right to choose how you live your life (within the rule of law).
Mutual respect and tolerance for those with different faiths and beliefs – within the UK you can practice any faith or belief you choose.
