FAQs

What is an Apprenticeship?
An Apprenticeship is an all-round qualification that lasts for life. The qualification consists of an NVQ in Hairdressing and key skills. You work, learn and earn whilst gaining a qualification and your employer can be confident that you are working to the required national standards.

What is an NVQ?
NVQ stands for National Vocational Qualification. The qualification is divided into units; each is specific to an area of your job-role. Once your assessor judges you to be competent in each area, the unit is completed. When you have completed all the units you will have achieved your NVQ.

What are key skills?
Key skills are the skills we all need at home and in our jobs, regardless of the occupational sector. For the Hairdressing Apprenticeship, you are required to complete key skills in Application of Number and Communication. Each key skill consists of portfolio work and an exam. Most of the evidence required for your key skills can be taken from the work you already have in your NVQ portfolio, so think of them as a bonus qualification. On completion, you will be awarded a City and Guilds certificate, yet another reason why they’re a good idea.

Will I have to sit the exams?
Not necessarily; if your GCSEs are less than 3 years old we can use the results to cover the exam part of your key skills. GCSE grade C and above exempts you from the level 2 exam and GCSE grade G and above exempts you from the level 1 exam. Make sure you show us a copy of your certificates!

How long does it take?
That depends on you and the course you undertake. The more you put into it, the quicker you’ll finish. The average learner takes between 18 months and 2 years to complete a full Level 2 Apprenticeship, however, we do offer a fast track course for Train to Gain or privately funded learners which allows you to complete in 12 months. During this time you will be working in your salon, learning the trade from your employer and assessors and attending our training centre once a fortnight for your theory and practical training and support.

How do I apply?
To apply for any of our training please complete an application [link] and send it to our Braintree Centre we will then contact you to arrange an informal interview to discuss your needs and how we can support you.

How much will it cost me?
The cost will depend on the course you chose, in most cases government funding is available, however, we also run short courses from between £45 to £200. Please contact one of our centres for further information.

If you are interested in taking us up on this exciting and fulfilling offer either fill in the application form (pdf) or telephone EASI Head Office on 01206 796677.
